Remembering The
Ratna Ling Deep Listening® Retreat
This Deep Listening® Retreat was facilitated by writer/director & dream specialist, IONE, and performer/choreographer and master Tai Chi Instructor HELOISE GOLD, both founding instructors (alongside Pauline Oliveros) of Deep Listening® Retreats and the Deep Listening® Certification Program. JENNIFER WILSEY, Deep Listening® Certificate instructor with The Center for Deep Listening at Rensselaer, and Musicianship Program Director at Mills College joined them as guest facilitator.
The retreat took place at a beautiful and peaceful Sonoma County, California meditation center. Pauline and Ione loved being at Ratna Ling where they facilitated a special DL Intensive in 2012. http://ratnaling.org/.
We will post attendees beautiful and thoughtful shared memories on this page as they are formed.

Dear all, my documenting photos are now online: [Above a just a few from Sharon's collection.]

Including famous turkey fight on the second morning and the Rock Piece performance on our last day, which sounds quite exquisite!
I have so many memories!
The chill of dew on my toes and the quiet inward turn of mist.
Discussing our composition in the warm sun with the booming laughter of Max.
The soft fluff of kitty's furry limp.
The acutely soft feel of Jennifer's belly breathing during the Daisy Pauline MMM mandala piece.
Recording the dialogue the insects and fountain in the open area after everyone had departed in the evening.
Synchronicity of voices and energies, focus and release.
Mapping out the lay of the land under my feet, in the dark, under a full moon, thinking about wildcats. Trying not to think about wildcats.
Heloise's voice mapping out the morning movement.
An inner voice saying, "Movement is the stillness of the Tao."
Ione's laughter and Lambie's (Lamby's?) dulcimer tones.
With love, Sharon

Remembered in the hypnagogic sleep state.
"Welcome to the Exaltation of Fragments"
(Added later: "Follow me if you wish" CHOICE).
"Welcome to the Exaltation of Fragments" was my line. I wrote and rehearsed and
pronounced. I was the only one reciting words.
When the time came to speak, I sought out the author; she was engaged in an epic conversation with Lord Ganesh. I BLURTED my line at Her: "Welcome to the Exaltation of Fragments". Surprised, IONE pulled herself away from Him and drenched me in her kindness.
I ran away to the water.
The core of this work is Exalting Humanitarianism.
I want to give airtime to Nancy's "bag of tricks". She had this pillowcase in hand. She would pound down a staircase, encircle a tree, steal from the monastery and fly back to the nest, reach in and with each fragment raised all the way to the sky, exclaim wide-eyed, "You know what I get in return Joan? Beginner's Mind". I knew right then and there, Nancy had been the Queen Bee all along.
The nature of this work is Self Exultation.
We rotate with Mother as She cools.

In need of comfort I have often returned to the memory of our first morning walk. Turning toward the morning sounds of the ducks waking in the pond. Visually obscured by reeds the tender clucks and purrs of these birds still tucked in their beds was so precious, so beautifully vulnerable. Big gulp!

Our Silent Breakfasts
People shuffling in and out of line,
weaving around each other in a little dance,
arms crossing as they reach for their desired food on the buffet.
Heloise passing by doing a tiny "bird-looking for food" dance,
lips pursed in a rhythmical whistle.
Muted ums and ah’s, the sound of warm water as it pours in to my tea-cup.
The silence around me as I stand and wait for the tea-bag in my cup to brew,
bending my knees every now and then, trying to find the ground.
*
I notice I’m a movement person!
Here are my three loves all at the same time: food, community-feeling and dance.
With love, Helle(n)
